.Shonda Waller, of Oklahoma City, told KFOR that executing Charles Warner would disgrace her daughter Adrianna’s memory.
“I don’t want to see him to be sentenced to death,” Waller said. “If they truly want to honor me then they will do away with the death penalty for him and they will give him life in prison without the possibility of parole because that’s the only thing that’s going to honor me.”
Waller said she wanted her baby’s killer to spend the rest of his life thinking about what he’s done.
“I don’t see any justice in just sentencing someone to die,” Waller said. “To me, the justice is in someone living with what they have done to you to your family, and having to live with that the rest of their life knowing they will never get to walk out those doors.”
Warner was convicted of rape and murder in 1999. He is scheduled to be executed in January.
The execution was originally scheduled for spring 2014, but it was postponed after the botched execution of fellow Oklahoma death row inmate Clayton Lockett. Locket “writhed on the gurney, gritted his teeth and moaned before being pronounced dead of an apparent heart attack 43 minutes after the execution began,” according to the Associated Press.
The state used an untested drug cocktail in Lockett’s execution and did not disclose where it obtained the drugs.
